Murray gives Davis Cup semi to Great Britain after 34 years!

What a performance from Andy Murray!

The world no.3 won all 3 points for his team to put Great Britain in a historic semifinal. Andy defeated Tsonga on Friday 7-5 7-6 (2) 6-2 to even the tie at 1-1. Then Murray decided to play also doubles with his brother Jamie to beat Tsonga and Mahut 4-6 6-3 7-6 (5) 6-1. The world no.3 had to give some more against Simon on Sunday to recover a tough 1 set and 1 break deficit and win the match 4-6 7-6 (5) 6-3 6-0.

It has been 34 years that Great Britain wasn’t able to reach a Davis Cup semifinal.

Murray: Now I go for the beach

Andy was absolutely exhausted after this 3 days’ marathon to comment “I don’t know when I’ll start hitting again but I will probably head to Washington for my next tournament in about 10 days or so. I won’t have time to go to Miami and do any preparation this year so will probably rest up for at least a week, then start training and head over to the States to get ready there.

Before that, I’m going away on holiday and heading for the beach. I don’t plan on doing much, just relaxing and getting some time away from tennis to recharge.”

Next vs. Australia

Great Britain will face Australia in the final 4 in September. Australia may be the favorite, unless Andy turns in “Super Murray” once again.
