Nadal to play the clay tournament in Hamburg

Rafael Nadal will put his attention to qualify for the World Tour Finals in London.

The Spanish Legend is currently ranked world no.10, but he doesn’t have many points to defend to be no.8 in the ATP Race to London. That is good enough to qualify for the World Tour Finals, but he obviously needs to add some more precious points, so what’s better option for the King of Clay than playing… on clay?

Rafa decided to participate to the ATP500 event in Hamburg after 7 years instead of putting his attention on preparing for the American summer that is played on hard courts (yes the ones he hates).

The tournament was “downgrade” to a ATP500 since 2009, that’s why Rafa didn’t go back.

In 2015 Rafa had a terrible season on clay (for his stellar standards) to win just one ATP250 event in Buenos Aires.

From the organization

Rafa will be back to Hamburg after winning the title in 2008. Tournament director Michael Stich confirmed Rafa’s participation “We are thrilled that the best clay court player of all time is coming to us. Of course there are some financial risks, but players like Nadal always attract spectators.”

The tournament will start the 27th of July.

Vamos Rafa!
