World no.161 Ram wins Newport title

World no.161 Rajeev Ram wasn’t the big start of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championship. The 31-year-old from America started the week in style after beating seed no.1 John Isner in the first round is a rough 3 setter 6-7 (5) 6-3 7-6 (8). Then Ram managed to get to the final where he beat also the 2nd seed Ivo Karlovic in another passionate match 7-6 (5) 5-7 7-6 (2).  Match Stats.

Interesting enough this is Ram’s second career title and he won the first one in Newport (again!) in 2009… probably he really likes the place!

Ram: I had no idea I could win this

The American commented “To say that I felt like I’d be the winner at the end of the week… I had no idea. The first win was more elation; this one is more satisfaction just because I did it again.”

After this title Rajeev will climb 75 places in the rankings to be the world no.86. Well done!

we didn’t see that coming….
