Average tennis age at all time high

The fact that older players are becoming more and more competitive is not something news.

If you have a look at this Wimbledon edition Djokovic (not a spring chicken at 28) defeated Federer that is almost 34 and it seems still far from retirement (actually is about to peak again). Ivo Karlovic (36 almost 37) is in one of his best moments and even Philippousis is toying with the idea of being back to competitions at 38 years of ages. At 37 Tommy Haas is also staging another comeback.

On the women’s side things are even more obvious. At 33 Serena has a serious shot at winning the Grand Slam and Martina Hingis (34) is having an incredible comeback to win the women’s and the mixed doubles in Wimbledon.

In doubles, at 37 the Bryans are by far still the strongest team around and at 42 Leander Paes is still a very competitive player (he has just won the mixed doubles in Wimbledon).

So, age is really becoming a number and an interesting chart is going around on twitter that shows that in the last 2 years we have been at an all time high in terms of average age of the top100.

Do we also need some more youngsters around? (not the ones obsessed with twitter and selfies especially after winning a couple of matches).

THE OLDER THE BETTER?
