Tennis is an entirely unpredictable game. For the players, even the smallest mistakes can have disastrous consequences. Karolina Muchova, the WTA sensation, has experienced the same thing. Following her impressive performances at the US Open and Cincinnati Masters, the Czech player was at the peak of her game. She did, however, break some shocking news to her fans in a recent Instagram post that was uploaded to her account.

The eighth-ranked player revealed in a recent post that she had sustained an unfortunate wrist injury. Her withdrawal from what was likely the best year-ending tournament was even more disappointing for her fans and herself. However, this tragic news also meant well for Greek sensation Maria Sakkari.

Karolina Muchova announced her withdrawal from the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico, on Instagram recently. Maria Sakkari, currently ranked 9th in the WTA standings, gains entry as a result of her absence. She has now qualified for the tournament three times in a row as a result of this.

Maria Sakkari will enter the WTA Finals with a lot of momentum and hopes to make an immediate impression at the tournament following her recent triumph at the Guadalajara. Her victory was made even sweeter by the fact that it took place in Mexico, the site of the current WTA Finals.

Muchova wrote in her post: “I am heartbroken to announce that I will miss my first WTA Finals in Cancun. Together with the team and doctors, we tried everything till the last moment to resolve my wrist injury. Unfortunately, the time needed for the recovery is longer than we would’ve hoped for and therefore I had to make this unpleasant decision. I greatly appreciate the support of all the fans.”
