Kyrgios, Kokkinakis to play the Davis Cup singles

Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis are the chosen one!

It was clear from the beginning that Nick would have played singles in the Davis Cup rubber against Kazakhstan, but there was a bit of “suspense” about the second player.

Groth was playing great on grass and he even managed to win a set with King Roger at the last Wimbledon edition; Sam’s experience and his ranking are also better than Kokkinakis’ (well… the big guy has only 2 ATP points more that the teenager…), but eventually it is Thanasi the one who will play singles. Groth will team up with Hewitt in doubles.

Kokkinakis’ contribute

Kokkinakis had some good memories about the Davis Cup after beating Rosol in the opening rubber to recover from a desperate situation “Having that experience in Ostrava was really good for me – showing I can do it even when things aren’t going my way,” Kokkinakis commented.“I was down two sets to love, and a break – in my first ever live rubber. I think Wally was regretting his decision a little bit.

“He told me to sit down and smile. I told him it was tough to do when you’re getting absolutely chopped. But then I got the momentum.”

Kyrgios will take on world No.115 Aleksandr Nedovesov while Kokkinakis will face world No.63 Mikhail Kukushkin.

This is going to be fun.
