Emma Raducanu has stated that she has had multiple coaches throughout her career due to their inability to keep up with the volume of questions she has asked.

The 2021 US Open champion admitted that in order to get her coaches to think more critically and to make sure she understands the reasoning behind instructions, she frequently challenges and questions them.

Following her split with Sebastian Sachs in June, Raducanu dismissed her fifth coach in as many years and hasn’t named a replacement as of yet. In the past, Raducanu collaborated with Dimitry Tursunov, Andrew Richardson, Torben Beltz, and Nigel Sears. Raducanu won the title as a qualifier at Flushing Meadows in 2021 with Richardson’s coaching, and she did so without dropping a set.

Due to injuries, the 20-year-old missed the majority of the 2023 season. In May, she had surgery on both her wrists and her ankle. She’s only played ten games this year in five different events, with a 5-5 record.

Raducanu stated in a recent interview that some of her coaches have found it difficult to handle her demanding style. She said: “I ask my coaches a lot of questions. On certain occasions, they haven’t been able to keep up with the questions I’ve asked and maybe that’s why it ended. It’s something I’ve always done.”

She added: “I keep provoking and asking questions to coaches and challenging their thinking as well. I’m not someone that you can just tell me what to do and I’ll do it, I need to understand why, and then I’ll do it.”
