Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza win a great title in Wimbledon. Martina’s last slam title in doubles was in 2002 (Australian Open) and winning another major after 13 years… well it’s something!

Sania also made history to be the first Indian to win the women’s doubles in a Grand Slam. Winning this title wasn’t easy .. at all! In fact, Sania and Martina were facing Vesnina and Makarova in the final to be 2-5 down in the decider. Eventually the Swiss/Indian duo found their way to grab 5 consecutive games and win 5-7 7-6 (4) 7-5.

Hingis: I had a great partner…

An elated Marina commented “I had a great partner to pull me through. It takes guts and courage being down 5-2 in the third set and coming back to win. Couldn’t have asked for more drama how to win it.

To come out here at Wimbledon, this is something we dream of as kids. Every kid that picks up a tennis racquet, it’s about winning Wimbledon, or playing at Wimbledon one day. When we came back out at 5-all, we had goosebumps. The energy on the court, we were getting a standing ovation, it was just unbelievable. We both knew this is what we play for, work for – this energy.

… the crowd helped us.

Martina stressed how important was having the crowd on their side “I think I’m speaking for both of us when I say we feel privileged to be here. It’s definitely the crowd who made us win this match in the end,”

THIS WAS EPIC STUFF!
