Serena triumphs in Wimbledon!

It’s Serena Williams no.21!

The American star defeats Muguruza 6-4 6-4 after a very entertaining match.

Serena had to cope with a slow start to find battle from 2-4 down in the opener. The American was struggling with a very erratic serve and a pumped Muguruza, but eventually she found her groove to win 9 of the following 10 games and lead 6-4 5-1. Game over? Not really! The Spaniard found some energy to incredibly win 3 consecutive games (2 breaks in it!) to bring the set to a 5-4 score-line. The public was on fire, but eventually Garbine imploded and Serena won 6-4 6-4. Match Stats.

Serena: It’s really cool

The American has completed her second Serena’s slam (ie. holding all slam titles) after achieving the same feet in 2002/2003  “Garbiñe played so well. I didn’t even know it was over, she was fighting so hard at the end. Congratultions – don’t be sad, you’ll be holding this trophy very, very soon, believe me!

I can’t believe I’m standing here with another Serena Slam. It’s really cool. And the crowd helped me through it – I heard all the ‘I love yous’ and I love you more! It’s such an honor. It feels so good.”

Serena is now the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam title in the Open era (33 years and 289 days) beating Navratilova’s record (33 years and 263 days) achieved after winning Wimbledon in 1990.

The American has now the opportunity to win an historical Grand Slam (ie. winning 4 majors in the same year) if she triumphs at the US Open.

WHAT A GREAT DAY!
