Roger Federer recently discussed his sons’ hard tennis schedule, bringing attention to how the game has changed and become more difficult in recent years.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion revealed last month that all four of his kids have taken an interest in tennis, with his daughters visiting John McEnroe’s East Hampton Academy and his twin sons participating in a training camp at Rafael Nadal’s Mallorca Academy.

The 42-year-old talked about the rigorous demands of professional tennis in an interview. He shared that his own nine-year-old sons now stick to a strict training routine, practicing four times per week and that he had noticed this change in them.

Federer raised worries about his sons’ intense schedule, noting that it left them with little time for extracurricular activities. He expressed his thoughts and said: “I think everything has moved forward. I’m seeing this with my children right now. My nine-year-old sons are now scheduled to play tennis four times a week. I think that’s too much. When is there still time for the other things?”

He added: “You always intervene earlier in order to ideally prepare the characters for what is to come. That can be positive and negative, but I’m more cautious.”
