Richard Gasquet is having a formidable run in Wimbledon.
The Frenchman has defeated back to back 3 great players (Dimitrov, Kyrgios and now Wawrinka) to be a great threat for Novak Djokovic in the semifinal.
The match against Wawrinka was an epic. Richard recovered from 1-2 sets down, but things got extremely complicated when he failed to serve out the match when he was 5-3 up in the 5th set. Eventually Gasquet managed to win the match 6-4 6-4 3-6 6-4 11-9 after 3 hours and 28 minutes. Match Stats.
Gasquet: It’s a very nice victory
Richard was obviously elated with his performance to comment “Even if I lost this important game at 5-3, I kept fighting a lot. It was important because I know it’s a great match, playing the winner of Roland Garros in a quarter-final of a Grand Slam, so I need to keep focus, to stay focused, and to fight. Of course, it’s a very nice victory for me to win against him 11-9 in the fifth. It’s great.”
The semi vs Djokovic
Richard will play Djokovic in the semifinal. Head to head is 11-1 for the world no.1, but if Gasquet keeps on playing this great tennis Nole may have some problems… well… it’s a Wimbledon semifinal, things should not be easy anyway!
