What Zverev said to Ferrer at the net in Madrid

Zverev Ferrer in Madrid

Alexander Zverev is trying to find again his best tennis in Madrid where he is the defending champion. However, the world no. 4 had a rather uncharacteristic experience in his opening match when he had to deal with David Ferrer that was plying the last tournament of his illustrious career.

The lovely words from Zverev

Eventually, the German defeated Ferrer 6-4 6-1 to have a great moment at the net. Sascha “refused” to celebrate and at the net he said

You’re the most respectful player I’ve ever met in my life. It was a pleasure for me to watch you play when I was growing up, you taught me how to be professional and how to leave it all on court.”

Later Zverev recalled that Ferrer in a way “started his career” after he defeated the German 6-0 6-1 in his 1st important semifinal at ATP level (Hamburg) back in 2014.
