Djokovic survives Anderson to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinal

Novak Djokovic wins a rough battle against Kevin Anderson in the Wimbledon 4th round.

The world no.1 had to recover from a 2 set deficit to manage to bring the match at the decider. Eventually the encounter had to be postponed of 1 day (bad light) from a 6-7 6-7 6-1 6-4 score line.

The 5th set was filled with drama with Djokovic showing an extremely nervous behavior (he even had a rant against a ballgirl), but eventually it was Anderson to drop his serve in the 11th game (2 double faults) to allow Djokovic to win the decider. The final score was 6-7 (3) 6-7 (3) 6-1 6-4 7-5. Match Stats.

Next. vs. Cilic

Nole will play Marin Cilic in the quarters. Head to head is 12-0 for Nole, 1-0 for the Serbian on grass. The played last year in Wimbledon when Djokovic recovered a 1-2 set down deficit to win 6-3 3-6 6-7 (4) 6-2 6-2. The world no.1 could be vulnerable to this match.

Djokovic commented “I remember he [Cilic] mentioning earlier this year that he wants to focus mostly on Wimbledon. That’s where he feels like he has a best chance besides US Open.

I know him very well. We played many, many matches on different surfaces. I’m going to try to do a few things differently than I’ve done this match in terms of return and my positioning. Hopefully I’ll be able to get more balls back, because he does serve very well. I think he’s going to try to rely on that element in his game.”
