Stefanos Tsitsipas and Sascha Zverev advance to the 3rd round in Madrid with straight-set wins and they are getting closer and closer from clashing against each other.

Stefanos keeps on winning. The Greek sensation seems to be not satisfied after he conquered his 3rd career title in Estoril last week to go for more in Madrid where last year he crashed out in the 1st round.
How Stefanos defeated Mannarino
The world no.9 started his run at the Madrid Open from the 2nd round (he had a bye in the 1st round) to beat the lucky loser Adrian Mannarino 6-2 7-5. Stefanos had some problems at the very beginning of the match when he faced 6 break points in the first 2 service games. The Greek was broken in the very first game, but after breaking back he recovered a 0-40 deficit in the 3rd game before winning the opener 6-2.
Both players remained on serve in the 2nd set until Stefanos conquered the decisive break in the last a game before winning the encounter 6-2 7-5 in 77 minutes.
Next vs. Verdasco
Stefanos will face Fernando Verdasco for a place in the quarters. There is no head to head record between Stefanos and Fernando since this will be the first time that they will face each other.
Alexander Zverev
Sascha is trying to get back his tennis after a really tough 2019 as the world no.4 has been struggling with his performance also distracted by some “off court” events (see article).

The German is the defending champion in Madrid, and he had the thankless task of “ending” David Ferrer’s career when he defeated the Spaniard 6-4 6-1 after he recovered from a 1-4 deficit.

Sascha will face the world no.52 Hubert Hurkacz for a place in the quarters. There is no head to head record between them.
