In the semifinal of the 2023 China Open, Daniil Medvedev defeated Alexander Zverev 6-3 in straight sets. On the day before, it appeared as though the match may be evenly matched, but the Russian tennis star demolished his German opponent and advanced to the Beijing final, where he will face Jannik Sinner.
At the press conference after the victory, Medvedev added a challenge to his upcoming Italian competitor Sinner, pointing out how clearly he has the upper hand in head-to-head competition. The Russian also expressed his satisfaction with his performance, particularly his serve, during the conference.
Medvedev made a comment regarding the next contest versus Sinner, whom he had won all six of their previous matches. He said: “Against Jannik so far I have done quite well in the direct matches, but we have had different matches. He is still very young and learns in every match. From the last time we played, he managed to win his first Masters 1000. It’s a great confidence boost.”
Sinner stated his remarks about the upcoming match against Medvedev and said: “I’ll try to change a couple of things. I never won against him. It’s another great opportunity for me to show my best tennis, trying to change a few things. Hopefully, they work. If they don’t, then there’s another time hopefully. I’m very focused on tomorrow & hopefully, it’s gonna be a good day.”
