Simona Halep has an emphatic start at the Madrid Open after defeating Margarita Gasparyan in straight sets.
The Match
Simona started in the best possible way after winning the first 8 games and conquer a decisive 6-0 2-0 lead. Simona won the opening set in just 20 minutes.

Margarita managed to feature on the scoreboard only in the 9th game (2-1), but then Simona increased her lead (4-1). Gasparyan tried to find her way back and she was quite close at the end when she had 2 chances while on serve to make it even (5-5). However, Simona used all her experience to find the final break and win the match in straight sets. The final result was 6-0 6-4 and the match ended after 74 minutes.
Simona will face either the world no.49 Alison Riske or Jo Konta (47) in the second round.
