A few weeks ago Nick Kyrgios made no mystery about his feeling about clay courts, and in Madrid, he didn’t miss the chance to embarrassing himself in his opening match.
The Australian was opposed to Jan-Lennard struff in the first round, and he showed up with a backpack and a couple of rackets to show off his disdain for the tournament.
Even if the scoreline (7-6 6-4) suggest differently, the match was incredibly quick (65 minutes) with Kyrgios often not even bouncing twice the ball on serve. The match was full of completely useless shots (tweeners, underarms etc.) from the Australian that looked more focussed to show off his lack of interest than playing a decent match.
After the encounter, the most stringent thing Kyrgios had to do was to text someone with a cheeky smile probably proud of his performance.
More than 23,000 Eur
The Australian earned more than 23,000 for this performance. Weird.
… and this about his motivations on clay?
This is what he also posted on his Instagram recently…
Here a collection of weird shots

Underarm serves. Continuing to light the tour on fire.
