Fresh from her triumphant victory at the 2023 US Open, 19-year-old tennis sensation Coco Gauff is ready to continue her winning streak as she prepares for her debut at the China Open. The young American is set to play her first tournament as a Grand Slam champion, and her determination to succeed remains unwavering.
Reflecting on her brief post-US Open break, Gauff shared, “Once I got home, it was pretty chill. I took a week off, which is the longest I’ve ever taken off from tennis. It was a little bit weird having nothing to do.” She added that she celebrated her victory with friends and family in Florida but quickly returned to training, eager to get back to work.
Gauff’s debut in Beijing marks the beginning of her first-career Asian swing. Following the China Open, she will also compete at the Zhengzhou Open, where she accepted a wild card invitation. Gauff’s WTA season will culminate at the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico, where she has qualified for a second consecutive season.
Despite her newfound status as a Grand Slam champion, Gauff maintains her focus and ambition, declaring, “I don’t want to end at just one [Slam].” With her determination, Gauff is ready to face the challenges and expectations that come with her recent success as she enters the next phase of her tennis career.
