Finally Maria Sakkari!

The Greek no.1 wins her maiden title in Rabat after a fantastic week. Maria had an inspiring run in Morocco where she dropped just 1 set for the entire week.

The final

Things become rather desperate for Maria in the final against the former world no.4 Jo Konta (now.47). In fact, everything looked lost when Sakkari was 2-6 2-4 down. However, the world no.51 managed to turn the table spectacularly to conquer 10 of the following 11 games and win the match 2-6 6-4 6-1

in 1 hour and 56 minutes.

2 games were essential for Maria to win this match and that was the 8th and the 10th game of the second set when she managed to break Konta after 2 immense battles. That was decisive to break the resistance of the Brit for the rest of the match.

After the match, Maria had to rush to Madrid where she will face Carla Suarez Navarro already on Sunday. That was “tough” scheduling.
