Andy Murray shared his candid opinion on a video that showed Novak Djokovic hitting a ball directly at Roger Federer during their match nine years ago.
The 2014 Shanghai Masters semifinal, in which Federer defeated Djokovic in straight sets before going on to win his maiden championship in the Chinese city that year, was captured on camera and released by Tennis TV on Instagram with the caption: Legitimate play?
However, one of the talking points was a memorable happening where a Djokovic shot caught Federer on his body. This incident has a special place in the tennis bloopers video. In replying, Murray agreed that it was a legitimate question by all legal standards and referred to it as a superb shot.
In his reaction, Murray says that Djokovic does not like it when the roles are switched in such a situation. He describes how the Serb gave his rivals, most notably Rafael Nadal and the British player Cameron Norrie; a death stare for acting in a similar manner.
Murray recalled that event and said: “Totally legitimate play. Great shot. However, when Rafa clocked him in Canada and Norrie in Rome he reacted like “How dare you?”
First, Murray recalls a match between Djokovic and Rafael Nadal from 2013 in MontrĂ©al, where Djokovic seemed to reject Nadal’s apology for hitting him with a passing shot at the net.
