Stefanos Tsitsipas has a great draw in Madrid

Stefanos has a good draw in Madrid where he has strong chances to reach the semifinal

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Good news for Stefanos Tsitsipas that received a rather good draw in Madrid where last year he crashed out in the 1st round at the hands of Evgeny Donskoy when he lost 5-7 6-4 7-6 (3).

Tsitsipas’ draw and projected path

Seeded no.8, the Greek has a bye in the first round to then probably face the world no.51 Joao Sousa in the second round. The Portuguese is an excellent clay court player, but this year he is struggling with an overall 8-10 win-loss record (3-6 on clay). Joao lost 4 of his last 5 matches.

In the third round, Stefanos should play Karen Khachanov that is having a horrible 2019 with a 5-10 win-loss record (0-3 on clay). The Russian also lost the last 5 matches.

In the quarters, Tsitsipas should play the defending champion Sascha Zverev that is in deep crisis. Sascha has an 11-9 win-loss record (3-4 on clay), and he is completely shaky on court at the moment.

In the semifinal, the Greek is projected to play the great Rafael Nadal that is a player that he suffers a lot. Stefanos has a 0-3 head to head record against Nadal (0-7 in terms of sets).

Here Tsitsipas’ projected path

R1  – Bye
R2 – Sousa
R3 – Khachanov
1/4 – Zverev
1/2 – Nadal
