ATP MADRID. Federer has a good draw for his clay court comeback

Roger will have a smooth start in Madrid

Federer Madrid Draw

Good news for Roger Federer that had a good draw in Madrid for his long due come back on clay courts.

Federer’s draw and projected path.

The Swiss sensation is seeded no.4, and he had the first “good news” that he didn’t fall in Nadal’s half. After his 1st round bye, Roger will face either Richard Gasquet (not at his best as this will be his first match of the season) or the wildcard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina that is an extremely talented Spanish teenager that is currently in the semifinal in Estoril. Still, Roger would be too much for him.

In the third round, Federer is projected to face Gael Monfils that is still struggling a bit with his fitness after recovering from an Achilles injury. The Frenchman has just lost in the quarters in Estoril to Davidovich Fokina 6-7 (2) 7-5 6-4.

In the quarters, Roger will face his Indian Wells conqueror Dominic Thiem that is in great form, and he is probably the toughest opponent on his path to the final. Dominic has just won the ATP500 after beating Nadal 6-4 6-4 in the final 4.

In the semifinal, Federer is projected to face Novak Djokovic that even if is still topping the rankings he is struggling with his tennis after winning the Australian Open.

Here the full path

R1  – Bye
R2  – Gasquet
R3  – Monfils
