Stefanos Tsitsipas and David Goffin are going to play in the semifinals of Estoril Open on Saturday at 3pm.
Stefanos Tsitsipas
Estoril has been an important tournament for Tsitsipas, he broke into the top 40 when he played the semifinal here last year. So its the second consecutive semifinal for the 20-year old Greek star after he came over a tough challenge from Domingues in the quarterfinals, but found a way to win the match 7-6 6-4 because of his nice variations.
Tsitsipas commented after the match:
“I feel like I was much more disciplined than usual, I’m really happy with the victory. I didn’t start very well, but I managed to find my rhythm game by game and broke back when I had to… I got the break back and then I felt like the momentum was going to me.”
The 20-year-old is having a great year after having won his second ATP Tour title at the Open 13 Provence in Marseille and entering the semifinals of the Australian Open in January this year, which he lost to Nadal 6-2 6-4 6-0.
David Goffin
The 4th seeded David Goffin defeated Malek Jaziri of Tunisia 4-6 7-6 (4) 6-2 in the quarterfinals to book a place in the semifinals. It was a tough tussle for Goffin against Jaziri which lasted for 2 hours and 38 minutes. Goffin has not been to finals of a major tournament since his exploits in 2017 Nitto ATP. He had conquered the likes of Nadal and Federer before falling to Grigor Dimitrov in the tournament.
2018 has not been particularly good for Goffin though he made to the semifinals in Montpellier, Rotterdam, Barcelona, and Cincinnati. 2019 has been equally tough for Goffin with just one semifinal match against Stefanos Tsitsipas in Marseille which he lost 7-6 (1) 6-2.
H2H Tsitsipas vs. Goffin
The head to head of Tsitsipas and Goffin is 3-2. David Goffin may have the advantage on clay winning the only match they have played against each other on the surface in Monte Carlo last season. Last time they faced each other was in Open 13 Provence in Marseille where Tsitsipas defeated Goffin 7-6 (1) 6-2. Their past records suggest that they have been very competitive against each other.
The Greek is the favourites to win the match as he carries the greater firepower with a powerful serve and forehand, on the other hand, the Belgian is a different player altogether when at his best. He may get the confidence form the fact that he beat Stefanos Tsitsipas on clay.
