Serena survives strange scare

Serena Williams often struggle at the beginning of tournaments to have some slow starts, yesterday it was one of those days.

The American played world no.113 Margarita Gasparyan that hasn’t won a single match at WTA level in her career. Things got a bit strange in the first set when Serena was 1-3 down and she was close to even face a 1-4 deficit (she saved a break point). Eventually the world no.1 found some of her tennis to recover and win the match 6-4 6-1. Match Stats.

Serena: She played really well

The American admitted “She played really well. She also had a few matches under her belt from the qualifying, so she was ready for the grass. She got off to a really fast start. She was playing really well today.

I would be lying if I said I wanted a hard match, of course, but I think it’s good for me. At the end of the day, it’s definitely good for me. But no one really wants to be in any sort of difficult match!”

Next vs. Babos

Serena will play Timea Babos in the next round. They have never played each other.
