Novak Djokovic Talks About His Good Fortune

Novak Djokovic said that staying focused on the larger context had been essential to his persistence as he acknowledged being lucky to have avoided injuries for the majority of his career.

The Serbian legend thinks that making investments in his body and team has helped him keep up his level and given him prospects to win Grand Slams in the future. In the 2023 US Open final earlier this month, Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to capture a fourth victory at the New York major in a record 10 final appearances. He has already won 24 Grand Slam titles, which is a record for men.

In an interview at the Ryder Cup all-star game, Djokovic emphasized that the Davis Cup Finals are his main priority for the remainder of the 2023 season.

The 36-year-old also acknowledged his ability to stay at the top of tennis at this stage in his career and reflected on his record win at the US Open. Djokovic said about his recent US Open win: “It was obviously very historic, very fulfilling. Just an incredible thrill to be able to win a 24th Grand Slam and it was always about Grand Slams and weeks at No. 1 for me.”

He further talked about his physical ability in a broader context saying: “I think I was fortunate to stay most of my career injury-free and I focused a lot on the big picture, the long term, and really invested in my body and my team and just wanted to maintain the level for as many years as possible. Because I knew that if that happens if I can have a long career, I’ll have my shots at the Grand Slam glory.”

He concluded the interview and said: “Still at 36 going strong I don’t think that the age affects me much, knock on wood I’m hoping that I can still have a few great years at Grand Slams, particularly because those are my highest goals and objectives and priorities.”

As the China Open ATP 500 tournament is presently taking place in Beijing, Djokovic decided to take a break and skip the Asian hard-court swing.
