Alexander Zverev happy with result and crowd in Munich

Sascha started the bid for his 3rd title in Munich in the best possible way

Great stuff from Sascha Zverev in Munich after he beat a tough opponent in his opening match.

The German his bidding to win his 3rd consecutive title in Munich and he defeated Juan Ignacio Londero in straight sets to get back some of his lost confidence (see article).

The match

Sascha started in the worst possible way his match against the Argentine to be broken in the very first game at love (0-1). Then, the German bounced back in style to win the following 4 games after dropping only 3 points and conquer a strong 4-1 lead. However, Zverev lost his focus again to be broken in the 7th game (4-3) and eventually the pair engaged in a sheer dogfight that ended with the world no.3 conquering the decisive break in the 12th game (7-5).

Sascha found his “vintage groove’ in the second set after he conceded just 1 game before winning the encounter 7-5 6-1 in just 64 minutes.

Why Zverev was happy

After the match, Sascha commented

“It was fun to play here in Germany. The crowd is always very, very nice to me and amazing. I was looking forward to it and it was definitely special.

“[He] is a very good player, especially on clay. He won a tournament this year already [Cordoba], so it is a good start to the tournament and hopefully, I can build on that.”
