Holger Rune was speechless when Roger Federer named him, along with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, among the upcoming tennis stars. In a recent interview, Federer, who is competing in the sixth Laver Cup in Vancouver, discussed the state of men’s and women’s tennis today.
The 20-time Grand Slam winner Federer expressed his admiration for Daniil Medvedev, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic’s accomplishments in the 2023 season. He also voiced his admiration for the young tennis players Holger Rune, Jannik Sinner, and Alcaraz. He also regretted the fact that he was never given the chance to face them in competition.
When Holger Rune saw Federer’s remarks on social media, he was stunned. Federer mentioned Rune by name, while Rune humorously stated that he had repeated the clip over and over again only to hear it.
Rune posted with a caption: “I admit it. I am a starstruck. I had to listen twice, maybe 3-4 times, Roger mentioning my name #legend.”

Holger Rune in 2023
WWWLLWWWLW Currently ranked no.4 (career-high), Rune played his last match on the 15th of September when he was overcome by world no.117 Thiago Moura Monteiro 6-7(4) 7-6(5) 6-2 in the Rubber 1 of the Davis Cup (draw).
Until now, during this year the Dane achieved a 37-17 match record. This year, Holger won 1 tournament in Munich. The Dane was the runner-up in Monte-Carlo and Rome.
Rune is scheduled to play next in Beijing (China Open). He will start from the main draw that will commence on the 28th of September.
