After 3 years, finally, we have the luxury of seeing Roger Federer playing again on clay.
The Swiss Maestro had to stay away from the dirt in 2017 and 2018 mainly for fitness problems as this specific surface requires completely different movements than the others.
During a recent interview, Jim Courier stressed the fact that the Swiss legend decided to get back on clay because he felt fit for it.
How Federer got ready for clay
Roger’s longtime fitness trainer, Pierre Paganini, during a recent interview with the Blick explained
“He started the training like a child looking forward to the first school trip, a madness. Feeling this enthusiasm has a big impact on the quality of the training.”
About Federer’s training
Pierre added “It’s too specific to explain that exactly,”
“It’s too specific to explain that exactly. In endurance, strength, agility, and explosiveness, there are many sub-factors. To train everything, this phase before Madrid is too short.
And in between, he should also get enough days off. They are just as much a part of training and are not there to celebrate, but for the recovery of previous training sessions and to prepare for the next day. For the harmony in practice, the right moment for breaks is essential. This requires a lot of flexibility from Roger.
And that he has such a large family, he masters his time exemplary.”
Roger will be back in action next week in Madrid, and the main draw will be compiled this coming Saturday. This is going to be interesting.
