The Czech conquered this tournament after beating the world no.15 Anett Kontaveit 6-3 7-6 (2) in the final.
The first set was decided by a lonely break in the 6th game (4-2). The world no.2 started the second set in the best possible way with a break in the 1st game before losing the following 3 (from 1-0 to 1-3). However, Petra broke Anett in the 5th game (2-3) and with both players on serve, the affair went to the breaker. Kvitova clinched an overwhelming 6-0 lead, and she won the match after conquering her 3rd championship point. The contest ended after 1 hour and 31 minutes.
Kvitova’s comment about the final
In the press conference following the final, Petra commented
“I played Anett a few tiebreaks in the past, and I almost lost all of them, which wasn’t really nice going to the tiebreak.
My last service game actually I played amazing. I really had the great serves over there, and I was just continuing in the tiebreak from the beginning. So, I think I was pretty patient, and I was just there and trying not to really be that hectic, as probably like I was before.”
Petra decided not to try to defend her title in Prague this week to get ready for Madrid that will commence the 6th.
