Nadal to stay behind Federer and Djokovic in the year to date rankings

The Spaniard didn't get the points he needed to overtake Roger or Novak in the year to date rankings.

Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal didn’t have the triumphant march he was expected in Monte Carlo and Barcelona. The King of Clay won both tournaments 11 times and given the strong form he displayed on hard courts early in the year, he was the overwhelming favorite to win both of them. Eventually, Rafa had to bow out in the semifinals in both events.

Nadal will arrive titleless in May for the 1st time since 2004. After “failing” to win Monte Carlo and Barcelona, Rafa “left” 960 points that would have been enough to lead the year to date rankings. Nadal would have topped this log next week if he won Barcelona.

Therefore, the leader of these rankings will be Novak Djokovic (2,405 pts), Roger Federer (2,280 pts), and then Rafael Nadal (2,145). Still, a long way to go, but it seems that things are going a bit toward Federer’s way.

Game on.
