Darren Cahill, a well-known coach, appreciated Jannik Sinner as the two discussed their coach-player interaction.
Over the years, the Australian coach has worked with a number of well-known athletes, including Simona Halep, Andy Murray, Lleyton Hewitt, and Andre Agassi. Since joining Sinners’s team full-time over a year ago, Cahill has helped him win three of his eight ATP tournaments including his maiden Masters 1000 victory at the Canadian Open in Toronto back in August.
The 57-year-old Cahill lauded his young player’s charisma and desire to excel in the sport in an interview with ATP which also featured a video. Cahill stated his remarks about Sinner and said: “There’s no fake agenda the way he is. He’s passionate, he has fun, he’s not afraid to smile, he’s a bit of a jokester. He has got a hunger about him, you can see it in his eyes. I know he’s called the fox but he’s got a little tiger in his stomach and he wants it badly.”
The 22-year-old Italian player gave a thumbs-up for Cahill and stressed the value of open communication between a coach and a player. Sinner said: “I’m always looking for people who are good friends but I also want them to be very honest with me.”
The video then returned to Cahill, who spoke plainly on the value of honesty between a coach and player. He added: “If you have honesty between the player and the coach then they can have a much better relationship, even if sometimes the truth hurts a little bit. That’s the type of relationship you always wish to have.”
