WTA STUTTGART. Naomi Osaka retains her world no.1 rank after beating Hsieh

The Japanese is sure that she will stay at the top of the rankings after winning her opening match in Stuttgart

Naomi Osaka beats the Taiwanese magician, Su-Wei Hsieh, in Stuttgart to reach the quarters and to be sure that she will stay at the top of the rankings.

How Naomi defeated Su-Wei Hsieh

The Japanese has always stated that she struggles to cope with the variations of the Taiwanese as she can’t really ready her shots. Early this year, Naomi beat Su-Wei at the Australian Open after recovering from a 5-7 1-4 scoreline. In March in Miami, it was Hsieh to beat Osaka in the 3 sets 4-6 7-6 (4) 6-3 in the 3rd round.

In Stuttgart, Naomi was fully focussed on the task from the very beginning to win the opening set 6-4 after breaking her opponent in the 5th game and without never dropping her own serve.

The script was similar in the second set with Naomi always holding her serve and breaking her opponent at the beginning and the end of the set. The final result was a straightforward 6-4 6-3, and the match ended after 84 minutes.

Why Osaka will remain world no.1

After Simona Halep withdrew from the tournament because of her hip injury, the only player that had a shot at dethroning Naomi from the world no.1 rank was Petra Kvitova. However, that would have happened only if Naomi lost in the opening match and the Czech won the title.

Head to head Naomi Osaka vs. Donna Vekic

Naomi will face Donna Vekic for a place in the semifinal. The head to head is 1-0 for Osaka that defeated the Donna in the first round of the Australian Open this year 6-3 6-2.
