Holger Rune’s back injury has been a major problem since mid-July, and he has lost six games in a row. Due to the recent worsening of his back pain, Rune withdrew from the Laver Cup, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina took his place.
In place of Rune, Team Europe leader Bjorn Borg selected Davidovich Fokina. “Last year was an amazing team,” Davidovich Fokina commented. “I was wondering if some day they are going to call me if I’m doing great on tour. My goal this year was to play more consistent all the year.”
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will represent Team Europe in Vancouver for Laver Cup 2023. Captain Bjorn Borg has selected Davidovich Fokina to replace Holger Rune, who has withdrawn due to injury.

Currently the world no.25, Davidovich Fokina played his last match on the 17th of September when he beat world no.112 Soon-Woo Kwon 6-4 6-4 in the Rubber 2 of the Davis Cup (draw).
