After dealing with a busy schedule in recent weeks, Novak Djokovic withdrew from the 2023 Shanghai Masters, the closing ATP Masters 1000 competition of the year.

The world no. 1 appears to have been playing ever since taking a break to spend time with his family in early August.

The Serb won the ATP Masters 1000 title at the Western & Southern Cincinnati Open in August by beating Carlos Alcaraz. Afterward, he won his 24th Grand Slam title at the US Open from August 30-September 10. He beat Daniil Medvedev in straight sets in the finals.

It seems the 36-year-old isn’t overdoing it mentally or physically and skipped the Shanghai Masters despite it being an ATP 1000 event.

Djokovic said it in the press conference: “Over the years, some of the best support I receive anywhere in the world is in China. Shanghai has always been one of my favorite tournaments in the season. I will be missing my NoleFam in China. I hope that I can come back to China in the future and play in front of all of you again.”
