WTA Stuttgart. Naomi Osaka is currently in Stuttgart where she is about to kick start her campaign on clay.

The Japanese feels strong and experienced on every surface with the exception of clay. Last year, Naomi registered a 5-4 win-loss record on the dirt where her best result was reaching the 3rd round in Charleston and at the French Open.

Naomi Osaka about playing on clay

During the press-conference preceding the WTA event in Stuttgart, Naomi commented

“Every other court [not clay] I have more experience than I have on clay because honestly, every time I come here I get injured. I’m hoping that won’t happen this year, but the last two times it’s been rough. Every clay season I missed out on at least one tournament, so honestly, my main goal is not to get injured and just ride it up until French Open.

I guess the bounces are different and you have to swing on the ball differently. For me, it’s a little bit different because I can’t hit as flat and you have to change the way you spin the ball. It’s a little bit annoying, but I’ve been practicing and hopefully the practice shows in the results.”

Head to head Naomi Osaka vs. Su-Wei Hsieh

Naomi will play Su-Wei Hsieh that is an opponent that she really does not like to face. The head to head is 1-all. In the Australian Open, the Japanese defeated Hsieh 5-7 6-4 6-1 after she was 5-7 1-4 down. However, in Miami it was the Taiwanese to win 4-6 7-6 (4) 6-3.
