Why Djokovic standing ovation was the most emotional moment in tennis history

Novak Djokovic has achieved so much in his huge career to get any kind of attention for his triumphs (and also his funny gigs). On Sunday during the French Open ceremony Nole was the main actor of what will probably be remembered as the most emotional moment in tennis history. Let’s see why and what happened.

1-Roland Garros his main target

Nole has won a huge amount of titles so far (53) and he has triumphed in every slam (8), with the exception of the Roland Garros. So the French Open became Djokovic’s main target (call it obsession) and the Serbian put all his attention to it.

2-Nole was so close before

Djokovic was very close to win the title in Paris in 2012 and 2014 to lose in both occasions to Rafael Nadal (who else?).

3-The big favorite

Novak Djokovic was the overwhelming favorite to win this French Open edition at the beginning of the tournament. The world no1 looked (almost) unbeatable in 2015 after winning the Australian Open and 4 consecutive Masters ATP1000 .

Novak’s status as the FO favorite was even strengthened after beating Nadal in straight sets in the quarters and after his solid win against an in-form Murray in the semifinal.

4-Wawrinka not that dangerous (wrong!)

Wawrinka didn’t seem to be an insurmountable hurdle in the final. The Swiss can come out with great tennis, but he struggle to keep a high level for an entire match (especially if it is a best of 5 encounter).Eventually the Swiss came out with unbelievable tennis (the best of his career?) to defeat the Nole in 4 sets.

The world no.1 was visibly shaken after losing and a jubilant Wawrinka couldn’t refrain also from console the Serbian.

5- Great standing ovation (2 minutes)

Things got extremely emotional when Nole was called on stage for the handling of the runner-up trophy. The public engaged in a touching 2 minutes’ standing ovation when Djokovic couldn’t refrain from holding tears.

Nole’s reaction was so touching also because the Serbian really tried to keep a composed, correct and professional behaviour, but eventually his feelings were just too strong.

This year Nole didn’t have full support from the public, next year everyone will back him.

CAN YOU HOLD YOUR TEARS?
