While on a recent trip to China, Emma Raducanu found a new hobby and fell in love with the tile-based game Mahjong. Since having surgery on her wrists and ankles in April, the British tennis star has been absent from the game.

Raducanu recently visited her mother’s hometown in China when she was preparing for her comeback. She told her grandmother about her love of Mahjong during her vacation to Shenyang.

She recently talked in an interview and said: “I recently learned Mahjong and feel most at home and my true self when I’m around the kitchen table at my grandma or aunt’s place in Shenyang playing with family.”

The Chinese game Mahjong is often played by four players, and in order to form a winning hand, certain tile arrangements are required. Despite spending many hours on the court, tennis player Radicanu has other interests as well.

When asked about her hobbies, she said: “They include Mahjong, piano, reading, learning new cultures and languages, motorsport, driving, and diving. On a day off, I like to practice some piano… I just started to learn and have a long way to go but I really love the melodies once you get it. Also picked up Mahjong and now enjoy playing with whoever I can find. And I just love driving.”
