According to coach Patrick Mouratoglou, Simona Halep, who has been given a four-year ban for breaking doping laws, is a victim who was not given justice.
He informed the media in an interview with the CNN that he was still in shock by the situation in which Halep was going through after the suspension. He said: “The decision is completely, for me, impossible to understand. During the whole year, the treatment she has received is not normal, unfair, and unacceptable.”
He further added: “She is a victim. She has been contaminated by a product that was supposed to be clean so she is literally a victim. When you are a victim and you are entering this process with the ITIA, it’s horrible. When you are provisionally suspended…you are entitled to a quick hearing. This is a parody for me. It is a parody of justice.”
The ITIA gave its decision on Tuesday, ruling that Halep had violated the anti-doping policy as a result of the presence of roxadustat in her sample and as a result of errors in her biological passport for athletes.
