Following her shot at the suspended Simona Halep, Eugenie Bouchard fired back at a fan who called her out for her poor tennis skills.
Eugenie Bouchard made a remark that was clearly directed at the two-time Grand Slam champion after it was revealed that Halep had been subjected to a 4-year drug suspension on Tuesday.
Bouchard acknowledged that she had received advice to keep her views on the matter to herself and to avoid sharing anything on social media. She tweeted on her official account and wrote: “I was told not to tweet today.”
Bouchard frequently made fun of players who have been accused of doping, like Maria Sharapova. After defeating Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine in the 2023 Madrid Open first round, she made a similar remark about her just a few months ago.
After her tweet, fans commented on her post. One of the fans wrote: “When was the last time you won a tennis match, babe?”
Another one commented: “Doping is rampant in tennis but no one wants to say anything.”
One follower criticized her for her poor performance and replied: “You probably already said what you think. But does this comment make you a better tennis player?”
