Rafael Nadal and Leonardo Mayer are going to clash in the second round of the Barcelona Open 2019.
Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal, the top seed in the tournament is coming off from a semifinal loss in Monte Carlo, it is only his second defeat on clay since the 2017 French Open. Nadal is obviously eager to redeem himself after his Monte Carlo loss. Before this, Nadal won all his previous 10 matches on clay. He was very upset with the loss against Fognini 6-4 6-2 in Monte Carlo when he said: “My personal opinion is that I played one of the worst matches on clay, it’s a reality. There is no need to hide it. What has happened has happened.”
Leonardo Mayer
The Argentine Leonardo Mayer came up trumps in his opening match against Marius Copil 6-3 6-7 (3) 7-5 to set up a date with the top seed Rafael Nadal. Mayer has lost 16 of his last 24 matches and that is not very encouraging when he faces the world no.2. The 63rd- ranked Mayer can take hope from the fact that he has been able to score a win twice over top-10 players.
H2H Rafael Nadal vs. Leonardo Mayer
Nadal and Mayer have faced each other head to head for five times and on all occasions, the Spaniard has defeated the Argentine. The last that they faced each other was in the Australian Open where Nadal beat Mayer 6-3 6-4 7-6. The Argentine does not look good enough to beat Nadal at this stage. Nadal will also have the home advantage and the fact that he has won the tournament 11 times makes him favourite to win the match.
According to bet365, Nadal is the favorite to win the match. See quotes and live streaming (only selected countries - USA excluded, but coming soon)
