After Novak Djokovic won his 24th Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open, former tennis player Barbara Schett remarked, “We will probably never witness this again.”
The former world No. 7 stated she is just not sure if Djokovic is still a human and that it is a long way for Carlos Alcaraz to catch up to the Serb’s achievements.
In the 2023 US Open final on Sunday, Djokovic defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to win his fourth title there. Djokovic passed Alcaraz this week to reclaim the top spot in the ATP singles rankings. The matchup between the two has taken place four times, with a 2-2 head-to-head record.
Rafael Nadal, the 36-year-old’s biggest opponent and second on the all-time list of male majors, is currently two Grand Slam victories behind Djokovic.
Schett stated in an interview with Eurosport that she finds it impossible to imagine someone surpassing Djokovic’s Grand Slam achievements. She made remarks about Djokovic and said: “We will probably never witness this again. I mean, it is a long way for Carlos Alcaraz if he ever wants to get there! How many more weeks can he be the No 1 player in the world? I mean, we have to ask this question because I am just not sure if he is human anymore.”
She further added: “He has the feeling inside himself that he can keep on going. This year he has shown that he has been the best. He showed why he has 24 Grand Slams, and this is something that is unreal.”
