Gauff, 19, overcame a deficit to overcome World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set match at Flushing Meadows. The score was 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. With the victory, she joined Serena Williams (1999) and Tracy Austin (1979) as the only other American teenagers to achieve this accomplishment.

After defeating Sabalenka, Coco Gauff spoke to the media and made a reference to her boyfriend. She uttered: “Last night, I started a little bit, but honestly, I just called my boyfriend, and I told him let’s talk until it’s time to go to sleep so we spoke until 1:00 a.m. and then I went to sleep.”

Her fans went crazy over her comments on social media. Gauff was “softly launching” her partner, according to a fan Twitter, during the presser.
