In the US Open final, Aryna Sabalenka lost terribly to Coco Gauff. She had a great chance to win her second Grand Slam title, but under pressure, after dominating the opening set, she was unable to control her emotions and fell to the 19-year-old.
Throughout the match, Sabalenka committed a number of unforced errors that made it abundantly evident that she was under pressure. She might have been so anxious for a variety of reasons, including the frequent shouts from the US crowd during the game.
But after the match ended, she started crying, and the fans applauded her during the on-court interview. The Belarusian was not reluctant to joke around at the time. She said jokingly: “You guys could’ve supported like this during the match.”
While discussing her family in the on-court interview, Sabalenka was unable to control her tears and said: “I just want to send a lot of love to my family. They have been awake and watching. Sorry for this result.”
