Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev have a fantastic relationship and the world no.1 had a rather funny moment during the ceremony that followed the US Open final. Novak defeated his Russian opponent in straight sets, and during the ceremony, he jokingly apologized to Daniil’s wife for spoiling their wedding anniversary (which would be on September 12th).
During his speech, Daniil said: “Two years ago I won here, and I talked about what a great gift it was for my wife. Today is sh*t. Normally, the dates change, but today is Sunday again: wedding anniversary. I thought: come on, do it again! But this did not happen.”
Novak later commented: ”Sorry for today’s outcome, and please don’t take this the wrong way, but happy wedding anniversary to your wife. I’m sorry!. I with all my heart. If I knew that today was your anniversary, then maybe..you know.. the result.”
