Serena is still ill. Will she play the final?

Tough moment for Serena Williams.

The world no.1 has been battling since the third round with a nasty cold and things got pretty bad against Timea Bacsinszky in the semi when Serena did throw up during the match. Eventually the American found the energy (and that was incredible) to complete the match and (even) trash Timea winning 10 consecutive games at the end, but now the big question mark is if she will make it for the final.

Serena is still ill

The American was checked in her Paris apartment by a doctor to comment

“I started to feel unwell around the third or fourth round and I felt really terrible during the semis against Timea. I’m actually not sure how I got through the match and when it was over I just kind of collapsed. I couldn’t move. I saw the tournament doctor on site and since I came home I’ve been resting – I just could not practice today.

‘It’s just a matter of resting and keeping hydrated – there’s not much else I can do.  ‘I need time, and obviously don’t have a lot of it. … I just have to hope that tomorrow I will be feeling a lot better and able to give my best on court.’

Being in the final here in Paris means so much to me and it’s very upsetting that I feel so lousy right now. It’s really unfortunate to be like this at the Grand Slam where I feel so at home and really want to win. I just have to hope that tomorrow I will be feeling a lot better and able give my best on court.”

Mouratoglou: Serena will step in even on 1 leg

Serena’s coach (and probably something more) Patrick Mouratoglou commented  ”She never thought about withdrawing. Even on one leg, she will step on court. She always believes that she can pull through. This is her strength. You can’t take it away from her.”

The final

Serena should play Lucie Safarova in the final. Head to head is 8-0 for Serena, but this time, given her conditions, we think Safarova is the favorite for the title.
The final should take place at 3pm local time.

WILL SHE STAND UP ONCE MORE?
