Coco Gauff, the newly crowned U.S. Open champion, thanked to her family after winning her first Grand Slam match against Aryna Sabalenka on Saturday night. Her father, Corey, helped the 19-year-old Floridian develop, and he served as her coach until Wimbledon, when she hired Brad Gilbert.
Following her victory at Flushing Meadows, Gauff sprinted into the crowd and gave Corey and her mother, Candi, among others, big hugs.
During the on-court speech, Coco commented: “Thank you first to my parents. Today was the first time I’ve ever seen my dad crying.
He doesn’t want me to tell y’all that but he got caught in 4K. He thinks he’s so hard. Thank you, guys. You believed in me from the beginning.”
