Safarova reaches her first slam final

What a tournament for Lucie Safarova!

The Czech had another great performance in Paris to beat Ana Ivanovic 7-5 7-5. Lucie played a very solid tennis to recover a 2-5 deficit in the opening set wining 5 consecutive games. IN the second set Safarova managed also to defend various break points when she was 0-1 down. The only moment that the Czech showed some nerves was when she failed to serve out the match when she was 5-4 up in the second set, but eventually she won the encounter after 1 hour and 52 minutes. Match Stats

Lucie has still to drop a set in this tournament.

Safarova: I started a bit slow

Lucie was 0-3 down in the opening set after just 9 minutes to comment “I started a little bit slower in the match and wasn’t swinging as much as I should. I was a little slow on my feet. Ana was playing well right away and going for her shots, too, but I slowly started getting into the rhythm, into the game. Then right away I took the set, took the momentum.

In the second set, when I realized I could finally be in the finals, I got a little bit tense there. And the game at 5-4, I was really overthinking and couldn’t really concentrate to be there in that moment. But when I lost serve, I shook it off and started to play aggressive again, and I served it out.”

The final vs. Serena

Lucie will play Serena in the final. Head to head is 8-0 for Serena, but if the American is not fit Safarova has a clean shot to win her first slam.
