It may seem odd to skip training on the court on a Grand Slam rest day, but Carlos Alcaraz finds it to be one of his most effective routines and a major factor in many of his victories.

Alcaraz explained this during a conversation: “There are days when I dedicate my time to fitness and not tennis. There are a lot of days when I prefer to work on load training and fitness, rather than practice tennis.”

Alcaraz is not trying it for the first time at this US Open by skipping practice on a tournament’s rest day. At Flushing Meadows last year, the Spaniard decided not to pick up his racquet the day in between matches.

He said it a while ago during an interview: “I haven’t been training on the days I haven’t played and it’s worked well. I’m doing things very well and I feel good. Mentally, I’m fresh. Why change things if it’s working?”
