Ben Shelton defeated Frances Tiafoe Tuesday night at Flushing Meadows, making Shelton the youngest American to reach the US Open semifinals in thirty years.

Bryan Shelton, Shelton’s father and coach, can be seen in the player’s box at the U.S. Open. Bryan was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. He began playing tennis in high school and went on to play for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, where he earned multiple awards while playing in college. He played professionally after graduating in 1989, rising as high as no. 55 in his career. He stopped playing tennis in 1997, and then he started coaching tennis.

Ben Shelton’s mother Lisa Shelton, who grew up in Carmel, Indiana, played tennis as well, though not as well as Bryan. Bryan and Lisa got married in October 1999, and they currently reside in Florida.

According to reports, Shelton is dating an athlete while he appears to be having an outstanding Grand Slam success at the US Open. Ana Hall, a track star is the girlfriend of a rising American tennis player.
