Ben Shelton broke his own record for the fastest serve timed at the US Open 2023, and Coco Gauff responded to the serve.

In the fourth round of the US Open, Shelton faced off 14th seed Tommy Paul. Shelton defeated him 6-4 6-3 4-6 6-4 to go to his second Grand Slam quarterfinal and first at Flushing Meadows.

The 20-year-old broke his own record for the fastest serve so far during the US Open 2023 with a 149 mph ace during the match. In response to Ben Shelton’s serve, Coco Gauff added a rocket emoji to her Instagram stories.

When questioned about his reaction to his 149 mph ace, Ben Shelton responded that he needed to adjust paces since keeping serve was more important to him than the speeds.

Shelton discussed it during an interview and stated: “Being able to change paces is something that’s really important for me. I saw the 149 on the screen. Yeah, that’s cool, but I’m also not out there to chase the miles per hour. I’m trying to effectively hold serve.”
